Instructors
| Kim I. Melton, Ph.D. North Georgia College & State University Dahlonega, GA 30597 (706) 867-2724 |
R. Andrew Schaffer, Ph.D. North Georgia College & State University Dahlonega, GA 30597 (706) 864-1615 |
Overview: The quality and leadership fields have developed along parallel tracks; yet, there are many similarities. This course will look at some of the areas where the two fields converge. Some of the topics that will be explored are “definitions” of leadership and quality; the role of values and shared vision; trust, cooperation, and competition; individual and organizational learning; systems thinking; and change for improvement.
This course is not a quantitative course and will be practitioner oriented. Students will be expected to participate in class discussion and in hands-on activities during class. The presentation of the material will draw on the instructors’ areas of specialization (Melton for the quality area; Schaffer for the leadership area). At times the same topics may be presented from both perspectives; class discussion will attempt to identify similarities, differences, contradictions, and implications to current business practice.
This course can be used for elective credit. Since this course has never been taught before, the format and content will be taking shape as we progress through the semester. The specific topics and depth of coverage will be determined by the interest within the class.
Goal: “to have fun, to learn, and to make a
difference”
