North Georgia College & State University sponsors two orchestral groups: the NGCSU Chamber Symphony, a chamber string group, and the professional-level North Georgia Symphony Orchestra.
Founded in 2002, the NGCSU Chamber Symphony was created to provide North Georgia students with experience playing string instruments the opportunity to perform great string literature from throughout history. Now under the direction of multitalented conductor, music educator and bassist Timothy Aucoin, NGCSU's coordinator of strings, the group performs a diverse range of string literature from all periods of music history, ranging from serious masterworks to lighter selections. Membership in the group is open by audition to credit students with experience playing string instruments. Community members with developed playing skills may also audition for the group.
Advanced players are given the opportunity to develop leadership skills through solo work, or through opportunities to perform with the North Georgia Symphony Orchestra, consisting of north metro Atlanta professionals alongside the best NGCSU students. The NGSO performs challenging symphonic literature for full orchestra, providing high-level experience for students and quality performances for the public. Membership in the group is by invitation.
For audition or performance information, contact Mr. Aucoin through the Fine Arts Department at 706-864-1423.
