While a member of the United States Army Band, Andy David performed throughout the United States and in 26 foreign countries as principal trumpet in the Concert Band and as jazz soloist with the Army's Jazz Guardians and Soldiers of Swing. Mr. David has taught band at the high school and middle school level in the public schools of Georgia and Florida and served as an elementary school music specialist in McDonough, GA. As a teacher, Mr. David has received many honors, including the 2003 Middle School Teacher of the Year Award in Forsyth County, GA. Concert and marching bands under Mr. David's direction consistently received superior ratings at festivals and competitions throughout the southeastern United States.
Mr. David also served as the Director of Jazz Studies and Music Department Chair of the Georgia Governors Honors Program, a summer program for gifted high school students, from 1999-2003. An active performer, Mr. David has recently been selected for the Regional Artist/Clinician Roster by the Yamaha Corporation of America and will perform with his own quartet at the 2005 Georgia Music Educators Association Conference in Savannah, GA.
Mr. David holds advanced degrees in instrumental conducting and music education from The Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree in instrumental music education from Columbus State University. He is currently completing doctoral studies in music education at the University of Georgia. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, the International Association of Jazz Educators, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Pi Kappa Lambda (FSU Chapter), the National Band Association, College Band Directors National Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
