Juror: Matthew
Egan
Matthew
Egan teaches and practices printmaking techniques, namely lithography and
screen-printing, as well as traditional and experimental drawing methods in
Greenville, North Carolina, where he is currently serving as an Assistant
Professor in the School of Art and Design at East Carolina University. Prior to his current appointment, he
lived in the United Arab Emirates for five years, teaching printmaking and
drawing to students representing 79 countries in the School of Architecture and
Design at American University of Sharjah. Egan was born in Newmarket, Ontario,
Canada, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking and Multi-Media
from the University of Windsor and a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking
and Drawing from the University of South Dakota.
EganÕs
work tends to have a dark yet playful quality. Each is comprised of collaged elements
that are derived from other drawings, sketches, photographs, and invite the
viewer to contemplate these fictitious moments and fabricated realities. EganÕs
prints, drawings, and high-relief handmade paper casts have been exhibited in
national and international juried and invitational exhibitions in North
America, the Middle East and Europe, including more than 60 exhibitions since
moving to North Carolina in 2005. Most recently, Egan has been working on a
suite of lithographic prints entitled the ÒBook Pages of James OÕGanolleyÓ.
