Plan of Study - (Registrar Office)
A plan of study lists a tudent's degree requirements and allows the advisor and student to track progress towards the student's graduation from NGCSU. The plan of study is the first indicator to the Registrar's office of a student's plans to graduate.
http://www.ngcsu.edu/enrollment/registrar/register.shtml
Each student must submit a plan of study to the Registrar's office before he/she earns the specified number of hours listed below. The student, faculty advisor, head of the department and the minor advisor (if applicable) must sign the plan of study before it is filed with the Registrar. Graduate students must also seek a signature from the Office of Graduate Studies.
ASN students – 40 hours
Bachelor's degree students – 90 hours
MEd students – 20 hours
MPA students – 25 hours
MS Counseling students – 35 hours
MS Family Nurse Practitioner students – 35 hours
MS Nursing Education - 25 hours
MS Physical Therapy students – 75 hours
Educational Specialist - 20 hours
Any student who does not have a plan of study on file in the Registrar's office at this time will have a hold placed on his/her registration.
After the Registrar reviews the plan of study, a signed copy will be returned to the department and to the student.
Class Schedule Changes - Drop / Add
Class schedule changes are allowed during the first five days of fall and spring semesters. The number of days allowed for changing a schedule will vary during summer sessions. Students should consult the university calendar for this information. Schedule changes should be made only after careful consultation with the academic advisor. If a student drops classes, he/she may not be eligible for financial aid the student may have already received. In this case, the student is responsible for returning funds to the Business Office. Unauthorized changes in a schedule may result in loss of credit. After the initial period for adjusting class schedules, a withdrawal from a class will result in the assignment of a grade of W (withdraw without penalty) or WF (withdraw failing) as determined by the instructor and University System policy. Instructors may request that the Office of Academic Affairs approve a grade of W after midterm in cases of extenuating circumstances.
Transient Permission - (Registrar's Office)
http://www.ngcsu.edu/enrollment/registrar/register.shtml
Current NGCSU students may request to complete certain courses at another institution as a transient student. A transient permission form must be submitted to the Registrar's office prior to the term in which the student would like take these courses. Permission is not granted to students on academic suspension. Two year college courses may not transfer to NGCSU as upper division courses.
*NOTE* Undergraduate students who seek transient permission to attend another institution (especially Fall and Spring semesters) and do not enroll in classes at NGCSU during that transient term will not be allowed to pre-register for the returning semester. The student must file a Request to Reactivate Student File form. Also, if he/she plans to commute, a Commuter Affidavit must be submitted as well. No application fee is necessary. The student will register with other returning students on registration day as listed in the Registration & Reporting Guide .
The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs must approve Transient Permission Requests for the following students:
- students who wish to repeat a course in which a grade has already been earned at NGCSU
- students taking transient coursework after Senior status has been achieved
- students who are on academic probation
The Transient Permission Request form is available online within Banner from the Student & Financial Aid menu.
The Transfer Equivalencies site below can assist students with the selection of courses based on how these courses will transfer back to NGCSU. The listing or exclusion of certain institutions and/or courses does not reflect the transferability of course credit. If students or advisors have questions, please contact the Registrar's Office.
Academic Probation / Restricted Registration
Undergraduate students who are not in good academic standing (on probation or academic warning) have a "Restricted Registration" hold placed on their records. This hold requires the student to see his or her academic advisor prior to registration. The student must present a permit to register form that includes the advisor's signature in the Registrar's office in order to register or change his or her schedule. Online registration or drop/add is not permitted by students who are not in good standing. The "Restricted Registration" hold will remain on the student's record until he or she is back in good academic standing.
Academic Standing
Academic Standing is calculated at the end of the semester based on the student's overall grade point average (GPA) and the number of hours (GPA hours) earned. Both undergraduate and graduate students have certain academic performance guidelines that must be maintained. Undergraduates should check the Undergraduate Bulletin .
